About Maia Gould

My area of academic interest is in cybernetic leadership, which encompasses management cybernetics, data and AI use in professional settings, technology adoption and implementation, and historically-informed analysis of technology-enabled futures

My expertise in this area is informed by my career in strategy consulting and technology law, and education in bioethics in emerging technologies context.

I focus on applying cybernetic tools and methods through research (including co-designed and participatory research) with external partners, on real world problems.

I have always loved working at the intersection between disciplines. After studying arts and science at university, I trained and worked as a science writer in an integrated marketing communications agency. I've since held a variety of strategy, research, communications and business development roles.

Throughout I've maintained an interest in research and policy, completing my Masters of Bioethics dissertation on the communication issues involved in democratic decision-making on complex scientific issues (e.g. stem cell research).

On the way I've worked with a range of Australian and international organisations and managed large-scale social research on issues such as leadership, mental health and corporate social responsibility.
